Show Navy Planes Spend Day in Milford-Carry Milford-Carry Bear Mascot I A party of bluejackets from the U. g navy, spent Sunday in Miltoru. The men, Chief Petty Officer, T. W. Williams in charge; P. A. McDonough chief photographer; J. E. Rawlings, aviation pilot, and L. N. Iverson, avia. tion mechanic's mate, arrived Sunday Sun-day morning about 9 o'clock in two navy planes. They had with them, small brown cinnamon bear, which had been given them about ten days previously, near Rifle, Colorado. Thu bear, which was muzzled and tied anu carried in a heavy canvas sack, was given them by a cowgirl, near Rifle, who had shot the cub's mother and roped the cub. The four men had been in the vicinity vi-cinity of Rifle for a couple of months mapping the 400 square miles of naval na-val oil shale reserve. They had intended intend-ed going straight through to San Diego Di-ego from Salt Lake City, with only a short stop here, but decided, on account ac-count of the strong wind, to remain over until the next day. They would have lost just as much ;ime flying against the 75 gale they fould have faced at their flying altitude, alti-tude, as to rest here for the day. The party left Milford about 6 o'clock on Monday morning for San Diego. |
