Show The PIKES PEAK OCEAN-TO-OCEAN ROADJS GOOD The marking of the Pikes Peak Ocean-toOcean highway, which has just been completed from Rifle, Colorado, Colo-rado, to Richfield, will be continued and the route from there to Cove Fort, connecting with the Arrowhead Trail, will be completed at once. This was the announcement made by Dr. A. J. Lewis just prior to his departure for Salt Lake City Thursday Thurs-day morning, says the Salina Sun. W. H. McMullen, an official of the Pikes Peak Ocean-to-Ocean highway, had instructions from the east to suspend work when Richfield was reached). Local supporters of the highway, however, wishing to have the marking of the highway completed com-pleted as far as Cove Fort, took the matter up and a telegram was dispatched dis-patched to General Manager Judson at St. Joseph. Mo., insisting on the completion of the work at once. Manager Judson who is heartily cooperating co-operating in the road, replied immediately im-mediately with instructions to have Mr. McMullen continue with the work. Mr. McMullen has gone south and t'.ie work of marking the highway in keeping with the system used from New York City will be carried out as far as Cove Fort. Tourists already traveling along the highway from eastern points are loud in their praise and declare the Pikes Peak route one of the best and most scenic transcontinental lines yet established. Not alone is the route attractive and the roads good, but the saving made in mileage is a big item for the cross-country travel. The route through Salina canyon r: portion of which traverses the forest for-est reserve, is always maintained nmt kept in good shape by the government govern-ment and traveling over it is a pleasure pleas-ure Emery County Progress. : |
