Show Beaver County Fish & ! Game Club Hold Meeting j Beaver H. S. Band Here The fish and game clu mei.t.ing held Tuesday, evening in th 1. O. O. F. ha,1! vus well attended. i A large delegation from Beaver! accompanied by their high school band came down and there was quite a number of sportsmen from Parowan, Minersville and Paragoon-ah Paragoon-ah present. The Beaver band of twenty-nine players, under the leadership of Prof. Johnson, arrived early in the evening and after giving a concert on the street, went to the Atkin cafe, where they had dinner and then went to the depot to meet D. H. Madsen, the state game commissioner, commis-sioner, who arrived on No. 7 at 8:15 Then they went to the hall where another concert was given. The band surely was an enjoyable feature of the evening. E. N. Thompson, president of the the Beaver County Fish & Game club called the meeting to order and after af-ter making a report of the club's activities introduced Grant H. Tol-Lon, Tol-Lon, who gave a short talk' on the objects of the club and the good it was trying to accomplish. Mr. Bet-tinson, Bet-tinson, forest ranger, spoke a few moments on "Camp Sanitation and Fire Prevention." Mr. D. H. Madsen was then introducd as the principal speaker of the evening. He made it plain that without our protection the fish and game of this country would soon become extinct, yet with protection, pro-tection, with a proper reserve of breeding stock, the game would never nev-er become extinct and there would always be fish and game for a limited limi-ted period of time each year. . Mr. Madsen, speaking of the importance im-portance of game in the developmeni of the country, said, that without game, which furnished the pioneers with food and clothing the country would have been years longer in settling set-tling and the progress of the nation would have been retarded. He -was very liberal in his praise of the Beaver Bea-ver county organization, saying il was foremost among the clubs iu the state, not only in its constructive work, but in its enforcement of the laws and rules of good sportsmanship. sportsman-ship. Before the meeting and after the meeting a drive was made for new members, and nearly every one approached, ap-proached, passed over their dollar and received a badge. President's Report Mr. Thompson, president of the club in his report says: In the past three years the club had planted in the waters of Beaver county, 2,200,00'0 fish; 2,000,000 were planted in the Beaver mountains moun-tains and 200,000 in the Minersville reservoir. In the mountains 865,000 rainbow-were rainbow-were planted and 1,135,000 Eastern Brook. Iu the reservoir 170,000 Rainbow; S.500 catfish", 3,000 black bass. The club has received from the state game farm, !)6 pheasants, 20 partridges and seven beaver. It har hatched 200 pheasants. During the year 19 25 the club has constructed a rearing pond just be low the little reservoir, where small fish will be held until the high waters are over every spring, at which time they will be turned loose into the Beaver river. On this $11 were expended. A bridge was built across the Beaver Bea-ver river and a road built to the little lit-tle reservoir, thus making it acces :;able to auto travel. On this S535.SC were expended of which amount the county paid $100. The club has constructed severa' small reservoirs and stocked them with fish, has built, a number of trails and roads and has a very extensive ex-tensive program for 1 ft 2 G . Il is the duty of every man to belong be-long to the organization. It is doing a wonderful work and whether yor fish or hunt, or not, join and help the club along. |
