Show SUGGESTION'S "Reader," in the Reno Journal, offers the following: "Why are 5,000.000 Americans idle today? "Because American men and women wo-men are purchasing goods manufactured manufac-tured abroad: $3,46S.000,000 worth of goods were manufactured and imported im-ported into- the United States during the eleven months ending May 31. "If this money had ben spent on goods manufactured at home American Amer-ican factories would have been kept busy. "Last year we imported from England, En-gland, goods to the value of $435,-000,000; $435,-000,000; from Scotland, $40,000,-000; $40,000,-000; from Belfast $38,000,000, and from Canada goods to the value of ?til2,O0t),O00, making a total of $1, 1 25.000,000. "All these goods can be and are being manufactured at hom. Is it not the duty of American men and women to defend their trade by supporting sup-porting home manufacture and there fore givinfi employment to their fellow fel-low citizens. One hundred and fifteen foreign controlled insurance companies, most of them English, are making yearly $500.0(10.000 from th Uni -ed States. All this money Is invested invest-ed abroad. "Figure for yourself the amount of good that could be done if this money were spent on goodB manufactured manufac-tured in the United States. It would restore trade. It would give employment." |
