Show GOVERNOR SPRY" GUEST OF LIONS SPECIAL LUNCHEON HELD AT MILFORD HOTEL MONDAY EVENING The Milford Lions club held a special speci-al luncheon Monday night at the Milford Mil-ford Hotel at which former Governor, Wm. Spry was the special guest. Governor Spry, now Commissioner of the general Land office was accompanied accom-panied by E. J. Milne, formerly superintendent of the Industrial school at Ogden, Utah. .. Jos. R. Murdock, president of the club, presided and introduced the visitors. Mr. Milne was the first speaker, as he was leaving on the train for California. In the course of his remarks, he took occasion to say that it had taken a long time to get the Mlford district started but that now it had started, it would never stop. During the day the Commissioner and Mr. Milne had been taken over the Milford valley by Messrs. Mc-Garry, Mc-Garry, Kirk and Taylor, and had viewed the wonderful wells sending forth large streams of water for irrigation ir-rigation purposes. Mr. Spry, when called upon for a talk, stated that he was agreeably surprised at what he had seen during the afternoon. The abundance of water had made a very favorable impression and that with the best market in the world ! (Los Angeles"), right at our door, he considered this as one of the most favored spots in Utah to raise alfalfa, sheep, hogs and dairy products, quoting quot-ing Adam Bede, he would advise, "fewer limousines and more manure spreaders." He was very profuse with his praise for the men who were taking the lead in the development of this great valley and wished them all kinds of success. He said that when he was a farmer in Utah, that they always had their own milk, butter, eggs, meat, vegetables, vege-tables, flour and fruit, but now he was living in Washington, out of a tin can and a paper bag. There, in hit mind, was no comparison and he longed to get back to the old way of living. During the evening, Mrs. J. C. Mc-garry Mc-garry accompanied by Mrs. Harry Taylor, rendered several beautiful solos, which were received with enthusiasm. en-thusiasm. At the short business session, Preident Murdock appointed a committee com-mittee on membership as follows: Al Cline, D. E. Kirk, Wm. Outzen, M. H. Pool and M. P. Lewis, and also a committee on Excursion. Geo. Jefferson, Jeffer-son, L. G. Clay, W. F. Miller, A. Frampton and K. S. Carlton. Dr. C. R. Parrish had charge of the music and D. E. Kirk was Tail Twister. The next meeting will be held at the Atkin Cafe, July 27. |
