Show CEDAR, PAROWAN ENTERTAIN EDITORS STATE PRESS ASSOCIATIQX IS GUEST OF IROX COUNTY JULY 9, 10, 11 The State Press Association were the guests of Iron County and its citizens on July 9, 10 and 11. Saturday afternoon the visitors were taken over the country surrounding surround-ing Parowan and shown the rapid development de-velopment being made there in agriculture. agri-culture. They saw the wonderful wells pouring forth vast quantities of irrigation water and the beautiful crops grown by its application. They were taken to see the noted flocks of Ramboullet sheep, the best in the world. Rams which were worth $1500 to $2000 each, and flocks of ewes, the pride of the state. In the evening they were served with a banquet in the Relief Society hall, put up by that body of good-doers good-doers and noted cooks, "the Relief Society of the L. D. S." ' Clayton Mitchell was toast master. Among the speakers were Mayor Thos. D. Adams, Alex Dunn, President Presi-dent of the Press Association, and W. H. Lyman, President of the Parowan Chamber of Commerce. Besides the speaking, there were several splendid musical selections, both vocal and instrumental. After the banquet the entire party enjoyed dancing at the Blue Lantern amusement amuse-ment pavilion. Sunday morning the editors and their ladies were the guest at a complimentary breakfast given by Ernest Banberger at the El Escalante Hotel in Cedar City. After which the editors went nto executive session at the adjournment of which they took cars for Cedar Breaks weher a box lunch was served by the Parowan people. peo-ple. After spending the afternoon there enjoying the wonderful scenery, the return trip was mde to Cedar City where a wonderful banquet was served in the Escalante hotel at the expense of the Union Pacific railroad. This function was presided over by Kuman Jones, President of the Cedar City Chamber. The guests numbered 16S. Speeches were made by Mayor Chris-tensen Chris-tensen of Cedar, J. E. Jones, Ex-governor, Ex-governor, Wm. Spry; W. P. Epson, state representative from Kaysville; and A. B. Peterson. The musical numbers under the direction di-rection of W..H. Manning, were varied and well received. Monday morning the guests went to Zion National park where they were the guests of the Cedar City Chamber Cham-ber at an informal luncheon. Many of the visitors went on to Hurricane where they were entertained with speeches and music and furnished with many samples of Dixie fruit. Here the guests separated, some going on to the Grand Cayon, others returning to their homes and thus ended the most successful summer outing out-ing ever held by the Utah State Press Association. |
