Show TRUE SiORY OF CHRISTMAS SEAL A leltor just received at the offices offi-ces of the Utah Public Health association, asso-ciation, from one of the cases discovered dis-covered by l he traveling health clinic clin-ic when it was making its tour through the state, throws great light on the poHslbilitk'B of saving human life if such casus can be found early enough and then followed up with proper instruction. James II. Wal-lis, Wal-lis, executive secretary of this organization, organ-ization, has personally visited many of these cases in the state, and bj. words of encouragement, correspondence, correspon-dence, literature books and othe means, has helped these sufferers lo get back on the roa dto recovery. The writer of the letter referred to is Mrs. Graff, who lived in Santa Clara, five miles distant from St. George. She is a prominent Relief society so-ciety worker in her community, and the mother of a large family. Her story is best told by publishing her letter: Santa Clara, Utah, Nov 10 Mr. James H. Wallis, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Mr. Wallis: 1 hope that you will pardon me for being so slow in answering your letter let-ter asking the permission to use my last letter to encourage others who are fighting the same battle as I am. You are more than welcome to use it, if it can help some poor suffering soul to better health. There isn't anything that would give me more pleasure than to visit the sick and encourage them. When 'one is weak, one needs others to help them keep up their courage. I hope you will have time to call on some of the tuberculosis cases on your trip through the state, and encourage them, as you did me a year ago. I also hope you will call and see me, and note what a wonderful change has taken place in a year's time. It is simply wonderful; I can hardly believe be-lieve it myself. I thought, it would take at least five or six years before I would be able to do as much work and feel as well as I do now, and many of my friends have told me since I am better that they used to pity me so when they would come to see me suffering, and one would say to the other, "Oh, what a blessing it would be if that poor soul could only die and be free from her pain " thinking that I could never get well again. I was an invalid until in March when tlw change came, and since then I have been doing most all my housework; put up 350 quarts of fruit and vegetables for my family also helped ethers who are sick: so you see there is a great change. Never Nev-er before did life seem so sweet to me. I have tasted of the bitter, therefore can more fully appreciate the sweet. If there is anything in this letter that you wish to use to encourage others, you have my permission. I know that if the sick will but keep up their faith and courage they can arrest the disease just as I have done but they must never give up, but have a strong determinaticn to get well, and when they feel blue ana want tn crv. iunt simle and snv "No T. Ti., you will never get me." and they will be surprised to see how fast they will improve. For mora than a year I couldn't eat. or sleep or do a bit of work. Now I have a good anptite. slp soundly all night, end have a nap every afternoon. I work most of the day without getting tired If onrl would have told me a year ago thpt T would he feeling so well in another year. T never could have believed it. I weigh more than T have done sonce T have been married. I stood the cole-and cole-and the heat better than ever before. I have drunk about 3.000 eggs since T went to the traveling health clinic. clin-ic. I am returning to yon your book and Journals of the Outdoor Life. Many thanks for the use of t.hom. I certainly do appreciate the interest I shown in me during my illness. The book. (Pottenger's Tuberculosis") Tubercu-losis") came just at the time whei T most needed it; my lungs were bleeding quite badly just at that time, and it was such a help to mt 1" keening tin my emirn?1. It is wonderful book, not only to help all those who are sick to better health j but tho.se who are well to keep wci:. K has been a great help to me. Assuring you that I appreciate what you have done for me, and that you will be able to help others also, I am, Very sincerely, MRS. BERTHA GRAFF Mr. Wallis, in commenting on the recovery of the woman, says, "If we only saved this one life, the pennies collected from the sale of Christmas Seal which were used to send the clinic on Its Journey of discovery,' was well worth it. But we have accomplished ac-complished so many other things, that those who have contributed in the past to the Christmas Seal Sale may feel that their investment has been well spent several times over. |
