Show THE' LIONS HOLD AN INTERESTING MEETING AGAIN The attendance at the Lions club luncheon last Wednesday noon at the Atkin cafe, broke all records. Kinney and his guitar and Bowman Bow-man and his hat were seriously missed. mis-sed. However, it is understood that they had good excuses for being absent. ab-sent. Lewis, yes, M. Lewis, he is the one meant, was on the program for a monologue. It was supposed to start out: ."An Option! An Option! My Kingdom for an Option." Like another great orator, he went out of town to rehearse liis speech to the cows, and he went out so far he did not get back until too late. He has not been excused by the tail twister. The musical progam was in charge of Parrish, as usual, and he kept the Lions growling. The instrumental trio, by Lions Parrish, Hubbell and Cline, violin, v'ola and piano was v. -11 received although Lion Cline did not perform. The one-act play, "The Extra Penny, Pen-ny, by Pool & Company was just about worth the money. Clay's musical skit, entitled, "Free Air," was very short and not very musical. He said the Free Air was over at the garage. A Tregedy entitled "Mutual Coal", at $8.60 delivered, by Jennings, was "a frost killer. He sold it to Jack Sherwood. The scientific talk on "Dry Farming Farm-ing vs. Bill Rolling." by Hubbell illustrated il-lustrated his limited knowledge of his subject. He was fined for occupying occupy-ing the time of the club. The duet by Gene and Sam developed devel-oped into an alabi contest. Fr.urnier's talk on "Should the Utilities commission be Abolished," caused the club to recommend that he be sent to night school for further fur-ther instruction. The toughest subject of the noon hour was handled by Jefferson. Subject, Sub-ject, A T-Bone solo with short-cut accompaniments. He made a brave struggle and was going fine until some heartless lion got hungry and roared out. "bull beef," that seated him. During a serious minute of the session, the nresident introduced his dnueliter. Miss Fanny Carlton, who is a missionary at Manati, Porto Rico. She spoke a few words of encouragement. en-couragement. She was applauded as she took her seat. A commit! ee of ranchers from the pumping district, was present and through their spokesman, C G. Haskell, Has-kell, they asked the support of the Lions in having a road built across the tract connecting the Beaver State road with the Sloan-Cook road. The . club endorsed the proposition and the following committee was appointed ap-pointed to help (he matter alrlg Fcurnier. Sherwood, Lewis, Kirk, and Jefferson. At the suggestion of Jefferson, a "get acquainted" committee was appointed ap-pointed to arrange trips out to the different mining properties to the different farming districts and to (he different towns. The committee to have -charge of this matter is composed of Parrish. Fournier, Hubbell, Clay and Mai k-ham. k-ham. The first excursion will be Sunday, June 1st to include stops at Experimental Experi-mental farm, Haskell's, Gospllts, Baxters and Bybees. Refreshments will consist of sandwiches, sand-wiches, washed down with ' water from noted wells. The caravan will start at 9 a. m.. Sunday morning from the Milfort Auto garage. The public is invited to join. Come in your own car and bring the family. fam-ily. Quite a number of application--for member-hip were on file with the secretary, but action on them was deferred until the regular business meeting, which will be held on June 4th in the town hall at 7:30. The committee on nominations for officers for the coming term will make their report and some new stunts will be pulled off. |
