Show Four Months to Jail Alleged "Bad Check Artist" Retired Monday, in Justice Nichol's court, N, Springer, who has been a hanger on around Frisco and Milford for some months, pleaded guilty to a charge of having passed a worthless check upon the Golden Rule Store, ana was sentenced sen-tenced to four months imprisonment in the county jail. It is said other charges are pending against bpringer for like alleged offenses, the total amount realized by him in his ''checking'' transactions being reported at $50 or .$60. The prisoner was in a defiant mood when brought before the Justice, used disrespectful dis-respectful language to the court and refused a stay of - sentence until he could produce further evidence in his behalf. It is said there has been considerable con-siderable of this "bad check" business been carried on lately, and the merchants mer-chants have grown tired of it. Attorney Sam Cline appeared for the prosecution; the defendant was unrepresented by counsel. Later; Since writing the above, the NEWS is informed that Springer has taken up all the alleged worthless checks and paid all costs, totalling close to $75, and hasi been released. |
