Show July Fourth Celebrated Very Quietly The Fourth of July was observed throughout Beaver county by a general gen-eral suspension of most all lines of business, and a patriotic program was given at Beaver City in the forenoon fore-noon in the public plaza. Many Milford Mil-ford people attended the celebration at Beaver and at other points, including in-cluding Salt Lake City and Provo. The program of entertainment at Milford was two public dances and the baseball game in the afternoon. The game was between Las Vegas and Milford and was a walk-away for the home team, the score standing stand-ing 7 to 24 in their favor at the finish. fin-ish. LasVegas was touted as a strong aggregation largely because of the splendid showing made against the Salt Lake Bees at the opening of the season. But the phenom. from the Northwest League failed to show up with the visitors and a hurler with one wing was put in to mystify the locals. He did his best. That's all anybody can do. George Atkin was the first man to bat for the locals. It is suspected that George has been taking some private lessons from his dad since the Fat-Lean game. George landed on the pill and made a home run. Right there is where the visitors began be-gan to lose interest in the great national na-tional game especially this one. It's some discouraging to make a start like that. It would be cruel to continue in detail, and we do not believe be-lieve in cruelty to animals especially when they are visitors. There were sixty machines made the trip to the power house in Beaver Bea-ver canyon and many hiked farther up the scenic gorge. Other machine loads stopped and camped before reaching the power plant. Beaver was crowded with people all day, because it was the only place in the county which advertised a celebration. We have heard of no serious accidents acci-dents and there was no considerable rowdyism or disturbance of the peace. There was a remarkable absence ab-sence of noise and gunpowder. |
