Show MEDAL AWARDED EXPLORER. Stefansson Rewarded for Work in the ' Polar Regions. Washington. Yilhjalmur Stefansson, the Norwegian Arctic explorer, was awarded the Hubbard gold medal by the National Geographical society for his achievements during the last five and a half years, in which he reduced the unknown polar regions of the western west-ern hemisphere by approximately 100,-000 100,-000 square miles. His was the largest contribution to the geography of hitherto hith-erto unknown areas for many years. |
