Show ACTIVELY ALERT BUT CALM In breaking off diplomatic relations with Germany Ger-many President Wilson did the only thing possible to do under the circumstances to maintain this nation's na-tion's honor and place among the powers of the earth. He has the American people back of him. He has them almost to a man. This would not have been ' the condition had he taken such action a year ago, or at any time under the pressure of campaign urging. President Wilson's determination to prevent war for the United States if possible has won for him not only admiration, commendation, but now that the crisis has arrived, a people united regardless of political po-litical affiliation. Considering the naturally nervous type of man that he is, the President's poise and forbearance for-bearance is the more remarkable. Even now there will be no war with Germany unless the latter begins actual violence against this country. In the meantime mean-time caution and preparedness are the watchwords of this nation. |
