Show UTAH MINES IN" VALUABLE IN MAKING MUNITIONS Utah is the producer of more metals met-als and minerals necessary to the United States in conducting war than any state of the United States, according ac-cording to 'James A. Lane, chief engineer en-gineer of the Mineral Products corporation cor-poration at Marysvale, the only company com-pany commercially making potash in the United States. He says that the potash production is sucn that thej United States can be furnished prac tically all the necessary potash for munitions. . Corwin Burns, an engineer with the Westinghouse Company, which is a manufacturer of munitions, gave out the following list of minerals and metals produced in the state which are not found or refined in other states; Potash, which is necessary in making explosives; tungsten, which hardens armor piercing projectiles; vanadium, which hardens steel; uranium, which also hardens steel; kieselguhr, a non-conductor of light, heat, sound and electricity, used in munitions; zinc, platinum ozokerite, used in insulating wires in the navy; saltpeter and a number of minerals of less importance. In addition, the state has the largest larg-est coal deposits of any state in the union, the largest copper mine in the j world, lead mines, the largest deposits depos-its of hematite iron in the world and the only workable carnotite ore beds, from which radium is made.
