Show MILFORD RED CROSS ACTIVE Thursday morning Milford Chapter Chap-ter received a wire from John W. Morey, manager of the Mountain Division, Di-vision, A. P C, Denver, Colo., asking ask-ing that this chapter furnish fifty Christmas packets! costing one dollar dol-lar each. These are to be in by December De-cember 15th. The executive committee com-mittee of Milford Chapter was consulted con-sulted and Mr. Morey promptly wired that the money was on its way to Denver. After deducting 5200.00 remitted to Denver for yarn, needles, Red Cross button badges, hospital ''garments, ''gar-ments, etc., and the $5 0.0 0 for Christmas packets, the chapter still has in bank today, Dec. 6th, $300.26. Mrs. Eb. Tanner and Mrs. H. H. Pitchforth each with a unit of twenty twen-ty ladies have already turned in a goodly number of knitted articles and will add many others in the near future. Mrs. James McCulley with a unit of ten is also turning out some high grade work. The R. R. unit, A. R. C, met last Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. W. F. Cottrell and the following members mem-bers were present: Mesdames Armstrong, Arm-strong, Roper, Brownson, Manning, Jefferson, Wheat, Tribole, Cottrell. The work was cutting and making bed socks, and thirteen pairs were made. These socks are used when 'the men are on the stretchers en-route en-route to the hospital. The ladies of this unit will meet every Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock and sew until un-til five o'clock until there is no more material on hand. Next week they will make pajamas or hospital garments. gar-ments. Any woman wishing to join this unit may do so, or give an afternoon after-noon to the work when they can. The unit meets at No. 13 R. R. row. Some of the sewing units have not been working, not through any fault of their own. but for lack of supplies sup-plies from Denver. The chapter has been sadly in need of some one to keep the headquarters headquar-ters open every week day from 2:30 to 4:30. We are at a loss to know whether to wait for the ladies tr. volunteer to do this work, or resort to "conscription." ; On account of high rents the chap-' chap-' ter has found it difficult to find suitable suit-able headquarters. We are paying ! $10.00 per month for one upstairs room, while our sister chapter at Beaver gets very roomy quarters for ;$2.50 per month. As the chapter is j not allowed to pay rent out of its , membership money or war relief funds, the chapter has had to rely on private contributions for this ami telephone expense. I Don't think you have done your J whole duty when you have paid your dollar and received a membership card. You have just commenced. What the Red Cross needs and will need until the end of the war is the whole community back of i( wiih j money, and then more money. When t he boys come home from the war perchance years from now you will wish to meet them "fare to face" anil knew in your own mind and conscience that you have not been a ' "slacker at home." |
