Show COUNTY ATTORNEYS Certain momboi'H of tho legislature are considering abolishing the oillce of County Attorney. Wo would also suggest that at the same time they abolish tho Sheriff. Assessor and County Treasurer. The constable could do tho Sheriff's work; the state Hoard of lCiiualizatlon could do tho Assessor's work; and wo have no money to pay taxes with, so don't need a County Treasurer. Hut seriously, we think it would be a mlstuke to abolish the oflloe of County Attorney. The County Attorneys Attor-neys -are usually men who can and do keep close watch In criminal affairs in their counties, in a way which would bo Impossible for an outside olllcial whose duties covered many , largo counties, and thoy are in better position to attend-to tho legal affairs of their respective counties than on j outsldo attorney could. j Our Idea Is to keep your officers close to tho iTooplo, and to abolish I this ofllco, and give his power and duties to a district olUcor. is away from the old democratic idea of ''keep close to tho people." But if they do abolish this office, by nil 1 means, glvo us a district marshal, j then we can say they were consistent. ! |
