Show SCHOOLS TO OPEN In the event that the Influenza situation sit-uation remains favorable, schools will open up for . regular work next Tuesday. Tues-day. The health officials have concluded con-cluded that with the disease at its ebb, the opening of schools will not Increase the danger of its spreading. The pupils being in well ventilated and evenly heated - rooms, and under constant supervision of teachers, will, it is believed, be better off than running run-ning at large without supervision while away from home. For the protection of the community, commun-ity, teachers will ask all students who show signs of influenza, colds, sore throat etc., to leave the class. When students are asked to leave the room, they, and also the parents, should take it in the proper light that the teacher does not say that the child has the Influenza, but she feels that the child shows a condition that may develop into influenza, and no chances can be taken. Students are frequently asking, what will be done to make up the lost time, and will a year's work be completed? com-pleted? To the latter question, school people say yes. To the former much elaboration.-is needed. In the first place, we should remember that the high school did six week's of it's work by supervised home study. True, many students did not do all that work. If they elect to make It up. they will get the full year's credit. If they do not wish to do so, they may do the remainder of the year's work and get credit on the basis of the amount of work completed, The end of the first quarter is only two weeks awray. All work completed up to that time will entitle the student to a third of a year's credit. Any work not up to that point, will render no credit at all. As a result of the supervised study, that was done only four weeks, so far. need be made up. - Many schools less fortunately situated are put to the task of running six days per week and lengthening the schoolday. The local high school will only run half day sessions on Saturdays, thus giving giv-ing the students Saturday afternoons and Sundays out of school. |
