It simply gets down to this, that if Governor Cox is elected he will do his utmost to force on the United States the Wilson plaD, wherein a world super-government will have power to give orders to America, even to the point of deciding whether American Amer-ican boys shall be sent to Europe. The Chicago Tribune says Governor Cox "virtually accepts the Wilson document." doc-ument." "The Democratic doctrine is that rather than remain out of the league." says the Tribune, "the United States must enter upon the terms proposed by Mr. Wilson." On the other hand, as the Tribune points out, the Republicans purpose so to shape the agreement that the United Unit-ed States will enter it "without one right of sovereignty and self-determination impaired." "The Democratic policy," says the Tribune further, "is to transfer the seat of government in international relations from Washington to Geneva. The Republican policy is to retain it in Washington." Sentiment is to the efTect that had Mr. Wilson had his way, soldiers and supplies would have been on the way to Europe. |
