Show MISCONTINUANCE OF RED I RED CROSS magazine: I A public announcement that the Red Cross Magazine will be discontinued discon-tinued with the October number was made August ltl. Following is a quotation from the announcement, which will be of interest to any persons per-sons who may have subscribed for ; it. It should be noted that thisj idoes not refer to the little Division i bulletin which we know as the A. R. C. Rays, and which is distributed without subscription to the chap- I lers. i "Rising costs of publication have ; resulted in the decision of the executive ex-ecutive committee of the American ! Red Cross to discontinue publica-; publica-; tion of the Red Cross Magazine. I They have reached a point where I further publication would involve ' either a considerable increase in the I subscription price or a subsidy from the general funds of the society, which deems either course inexpe- dient. "The Red Cross is now developing develop-ing an extensive peace-time program pro-gram and in addition must carry on the responsibilities assumed during ! the war to the limit of its resources available for that purpose. Had the ; P.ed Cross Magazine been the only j means of communication with the i public and the Red Cross workers, it would have been necessary to con-; con-; tinue the magazine, even at a loss, i Through the medium o its otao j publications, however, such as the ! National Headquarters and Division j bulletins, Junior Red Cross News, and pamphlets on special subjects j and with the co-operation of the j press and through the Red Cross 'motion picture service, a machine for distributing information has been I developed, so that even with the ell-1 ! ruination of the magazine this work j will continue." j The Red Cross bulletin agrees j with us that the team work was the ! keynote of success in Red Cross ser-i ser-i vice during the war, and team work i Is also the keynote of success in con-i con-i nection with the carrying out of its I service now. If it were possible for the organization to do its work en-' en-' tirely alone, there isjio question but that it would attempt it. With the , Fourth Roll Call approaching, let us all think of the full meaning of this I service. Kendall Kirk Franke. Secy. Home Service. |
