Show GOVERNOR BAMBERGER'S BAD BREAK j When Governor Simon Bamberger last week suspended two state officials he acted within his right. But for him tq, take such action before he had j sufficient evidence to sustain such drastic measures J was a bad mistake. Bad for the governor and pitiful for any innocent man thus thrown under sus- j picion.' That ,the governor has since reinstated one J of the men shows conclusively that the drastic action I of suspension was premature and unwarranted. It J even reflects upon the governor's sincerity. If a real worth-while investigation was desired the most quiet and secret methods of procedure should be ex- pected to accomplish the best results and get at the true condition of affairs of the offices to be investi- gated, The grandstand play and sensational scare- head method gives any guilty official a better chance to cover up and "prepare" for an "investigation" Governor Bamberger's sensational claim that he J would return $100 to the state for every dollar of the $25,000 asked for to carry on the proposed in- J vestigation has now been explained by the Governor J as meaning no reflection upon any official but that he expected to raise the $2,500,000 by a new tax J upon the mining interests. Oh piffle. |
