Show BOOKING BACKWARD Items of Interest from the Fileii :f The News of Fifteen Years Ago This Week. The work of shearing thousands of sheep has begun at Minersville, Black Rock and Newhouse. The shearing at Minersville started Monday, and up to date 7500 head had been shorn. The Black Rock shearers have been at work a week and approximately 35 000 head have been handled. Work began at New-house New-house yesterday. William Morr's has charge of the Newhouse corrals and is employing em-ploying 50 men, 30 of whom arr shearers from Escalante. The her l of June Metcalf, approximate'-' 3500 head, will be handled first Earl Whittaker's two bunches of "00 and 500, and Christensen's flock r.500. are amcng those scheduled. It is est'mated that the Newhouse "hearers will handly 36 000 sheep at the rate of 3500 a day before the close of the season. Fifty thousand sheep will be handled han-dled at Black Rock by Arch James and his crew of 50 shearers. Flocks of Walter James Candlon, and A. Barton's two herds have already been run through at a rate of 5000 a day. Frank Williams and his 20 shearers shear-ers of Minersville are handling 3500 a day and have already shorne the flocks of Fred Levi and Jack Wheeler. They will handle, in all, 35,000 head. Considerable excitement was occasioned oc-casioned here Saturday noon when the car of Mrs. Berny Okahara burst into flames at the intersection intersec-tion of Main and Post Office streets. Mrs. Okahara, who was driving, had the presence of mind to turn off the engine before she left the car, and Mr. Koch of the Telluride Power company put out the fire with a chemical extinguisher. Immediately after Mr. Koch's quick action the fire department arrived. On investigation is was decided that the fire was the result of the engine backfiring and igniting ig-niting the gasoline in the carburetor. carbu-retor. The Service Star is to hold regular reg-ular meetings on the last Friday pf each month, it was decided at a special meeting of officers of the club held last week at the Atkin hotel. For the past several months the Service Star has been inactive. However last week Mrs. Grace Pitchforth, president, called a special spe-cial meeting of the officers and they voted on regular monthly meetings, the first of which will be held Friday evening in the lounge of the Atkin hotel. Present at the special meeting were President Pitchforth, Mrs. A. J. Atkin, vice president; Mrs. John Killam, secretary; Mrs. Hatty Root, chaplain, and Mrs. A. F. McCully, treasurer. |
