Show ContractAwarded Tuesday for New Library Building With construction to begin within with-in a few days and April 30 specified speci-fied as the date for completion, Milford people should soon be able to enjoy the comforts and other advantages of a fine new library building, the Milford town board of trustees having awarded the contract Tuesday to Vernon C. Tolboe of Provo, who also has the contract for the extensive school building program in Milford and Beaver. The building will be constructed con-structed as a P W A project, with 45 of the total cost furnished through this agency and the remainder re-mainder by the town. Henry Vosse, P W A resident inspector, is charged charg-ed with seeing that the plans and specifications of the local authorities authori-ties are carried out and is to aid local authorities in completing the new facilities in as short a time as possible. The Tolboe bid was $11,880 and seven other bids ranged to $13,500, as follows: A. W. Curtis, Salt Lake City, $11,993.75; John Ok-land, Ok-land, Salt Lake, $12,350; John Berntson, Payson, $12,635; H. C. Bradfield, Milford, $12,969; Lloyd Hobbs, Nephi, $13,159; Barnett and Burdick, Payson, $13,389; Litchfield Litch-field and Menlove, Salt Lake City, $13,500. The wisdom of the town board in turning down the five bids of-'fered of-'fered December 19 and re-adver-1 tising is proved by the larger number num-ber of bidders Tuesday and the fact that all bids were approximately approxi-mately $4,500 lower this time, the previous figures having ranged from $16,340 to $17,890. Tolboe, Hobbs and Okland were among the bidders December 19, at which time Okland offered the lowest figure with Tolboe's figure of $17,447 being more than a thousand thou-sand dollars higher than Okland's. A large part of the difference in Tuesday's bidding, however, in Comparison with that of December Decem-ber comes about by reason of extensive ex-tensive modification of plans and specifications by Scott & Welch, the architects, in order to come within the funds allocated to this project. The over-all dimensions of the building are reduced approximately ap-proximately two by four feet; stoker-cperated steam heat, as originally provided for, is changed to an ordinary hot-air system; a fireplace in the main room is eliminated; elimi-nated; the basement room is to be left in an unplastered condition; and steel shelving is not provided for in the bid accepted. Also, the , excavating is being done on a separate sep-arate bid, that part of the work having been started before the close of the year on advice of the architects in order to hold the project pro-ject under the P W A. But it is probable that the town will arrange ar-range for the installation of steel shelving, the fireplace and some other features out of unused funds allocated to the project. |
