Show Bond Pledge Drive To Start Monday Starting next Monday, April 6, everyone in Utah who receives an income will be urged to sign a pledge to purchase United States defense bonds and stamps. The canvass will be an organized, statewide effort to obtain a forecast fore-cast of what may be expected by the treasury department from the sale of these securities, according to a statement from Charles R-Mabey, R-Mabey, state administrator of the defense savings staff. Throughout Through-out the nation, similar drives have been completed or will be launched launch-ed within a few days. In Utah the drive will be intensive, inten-sive, organized to reach every earner in every city, town and farm in the state and everyone will be asked to sign a pledge card, whether or not he is at present pre-sent buying bonds and stamps. The pledge will apply to those who are buying on a payroll savings plan as well those who may be buying independently. The idea, Mr. Mabey emphasized, is to enable en-able the treasury department to estimate from nation-wide returns how much will be realized from sales of bonds and stamps and how much will have to be raised by taxation the clear import being that the more dollars raised by loans , from people, the less needed through taxation. It is pointed out by the drive-leaders drive-leaders that the pledge card signing sign-ing is wholly voluntary; the card is not a purchase order for bonds but is a promise to buy them to a certain amount by the week, month or year and is confidential information for treasury officials only. No pledge amount will be revealed. No money will be paid to or .accepted by any canvasser. Pledge signers will be given a receipt and a sticker to evidence their cooperation in the war financing fi-nancing effort. . In addition to gaining an estimate esti-mate of the amount to be expected expect-ed from the sale of bonds and stamps, the person-to-person contact con-tact with 48,000,000 people in the nation will stress the important part savings will play in winning win-ning the war.
