Show Debate Meet Held More than 300 high school students stu-dents from all parts of the state gathered at the University of Utah last week for the annual forensic tournament, demonstrating demonstrat-ing their ability in debate, oratory I impromptu and extempore speaking, speak-ing, and panel discussion. Organized and sponsored by the University Varsity Debate squad, the meet was carried on under the auspices of the Utah State Teachers of Speech organization. High schools represented at the tournament were Milford, Davis, Box Elder. Carbon, Richfield, Ogden, Og-den, South Cache, North Cache. St. George, Wasatch Academy, Logan High School, Granite, Hurricane, Hur-ricane, Jordan, Pleasant Grove. Weber, Monroe, and the three Salt Lake City high schools. Representing the Milford high school were Carolyn Clay, Gael Elmer, Doris Terry, Wallace Mas-tros, Mas-tros, Lola Davis, Harvey Voorhees, Nolan Hughes, Paul Moody, Jack Kirk, Jay Hollingshead, Donna Burgoyne and Lois Gray; accompanied accom-panied by Principal E. R. Moody and J. M. Hughes. The "no decision" feature of the annual forensic tournamest was a strong point of the meet. Con-tstants Con-tstants were rankled according o their individual performance as superior, good, fair and poor. The debate subject was the question of a year's military conscription con-scription after graduating from high school, and the extempkvre speaking subject was Pan American Ameri-can relations. , |
