Show AMERICAN EOAR IS THRILLING AND DANGEROUS GAME There Is no other animal In the United States that will accommodate you as quickly with a fight as a wild boar. The boars found on Santa Cruz Island Is-land oiT the California coast attain a weight of "50 pounds, mostly nms cle. They have tusks, one on either side of the lower jaw, which articulate articu-late in an upward and outward curve on two shorter, but heavier canines of the upper jaw. This sharpens them to kuifelike edges. Large boars will charge a man as soon as he appears within reasonable distance. At this stage of the game the animal becomes totally indifferent indiffer-ent to the barking dog, lowers Ills head, and begins champing his jaws until he actually froths at the mouth. Then he takes a few uncertain steps forward and with coughing, guttural grunts rushes with surprising speed at the man foe. I have never allowed one to advance ad-vance beyond the "uncertain steps." The champing jaws, and the click ot those white daggers Is thrill enough; in fact, a bullet to the right place at the first possible moment Is the natural impulse, and the sane action for the safety of both man and dog, especially the dog.
