Show Mrs. J. M. Williams was a Salt Lake City visitor the past several (lays. . M Mrs. W. G. White was a Salt I ake City visitor this week. Harry Smurthweigh of Salt Lake City was a Milford visitor this week. .Berlyn Osborn of Escalante left for his home Sunday, after visiting visit-ing at the J. C. Smith home, the special guest of Miss IJanae Smith. The Misses Rozetta and Frieda Koch left last Saturday for Colorado Colo-rado Springs, Colorado, where they hav employment, after visiting visit-ing a couple of weeks with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. 0. C. Koch. The Pierian club met at the home of Mrs. Elva Sedgwick Tuesday evening- Current articles and reading from the book "The Nile" were enjoyed, after which refreshments were served by the hostess. Those present were Mrs. J. R. Murdock sr., Mrs. Vena Wilson, Wil-son, Mrs. Roy White sr., Mrs. 0. C- Koch and Mrs. Frank Doble. Mrs. William Cochrane entertained enter-tained her bridge club Monday night with the following present: Mrs. Rudolph Nielsen, Mrs. Gene Kirk, Mrs. D. S. Williams, Mrs. J. C. Smith, Mrs. J. M. Hughes, Mrs M. H. Pool and Mrs. Wlilliam Carlson. Mrs. Smith won the club prize, Mrs. Pool the house prize and Mrs. Williams the consolation prize. The W. P. A. play school pro-jert, pro-jert, under the supervision of Mrs. Hazel Moore and Mrs. Lettie Fotheringham, has 35 little students. stu-dents. All the townspeople, including in-cluding parents, relatives and friends of the little folks, are cordially invited to come and visit the class room in the new library basement and see the future citizens citi-zens at work and play. Mrs. Susan Baxter was the hostess last Thursday evening, January 11, when she entertained her Literary club. The members present were Miss Gladys Gospill, Mrs- Asenith Pool, Mrs. Ruth Williams, Wil-liams, Mrs. Lucy Hendrickson and Mrs. Mae Peak. Delicious refreshments re-freshments were served by the hostess. After a short business meeting, the book, "Kristen La-vransdatter" La-vransdatter" by Sigrid Undset, was reviewed' by Mrs. Peak. The next meeting will be held January 25 at the home of Mrs. Peak. Mrs. Baxter will give the review- D. E. Kirk, local realtor, accompanied ac-companied by Attorney Sam Cline and J. C. Smith, cashier of the Milford State bank, made a weekend week-end business trip to Los Angeles. Jlrs-i Harry Jeffm-son kt on Wednesday for Delta, where she intended spending a few days with friends before proceeding on to Los Angeles for an indefinite stay. Thomas Gerrard, local manager of the J. C. Penney company store, accompanied by Vance Fisher, assistant as-sistant manager, and Mrs. Fisher, Fish-er, motored to St. George Sunday to attend a district meeting of Penney store managers. Henry R. Gillins returned home last week after several weeks visit in Riverside and other parts of California and Nevada with his daughters, Mrs. Orvil Nielsen, Mrs. Willis Rodgers and Mrs. Bill Frazier, and their families. He also visited at San Diego with his son, Isadore Gillins, and grandson, grand-son, Allen Bingham, who recently enrolled in the marine corps at that place. The following were installed January 17 as officers of the Milford Mil-ford Volunteer Fire Department for the year 1940: Kenneth Smith, president; Ross Patterson, vice president; Harry Jefferson, secretary-treasurer; Clyde Griffiths, chief; Dick Johnson, captain; J. S-Rickerson, S-Rickerson, drill master; Frank Thompson, trustee and Ralph Thompson, trustee. On Tuesday evening, January 1G, Mrs. O. A- Steenbock entertained enter-tained a number of friends in honor of Mr. Steenbock's 54th birthday. This was his first birthday birth-day party in his whole lifetime. He was so thrilled and happy about the whole affair, helping to plan everything for days ahead. Bridge was played in the early part of the evening, high points being won by Mrs. Lettie Fotheringham Fother-ingham and Ernest Uren, high honors by Mrs. Marvel Connell and Clyde Levitt an,d consolation by Abe Fotheringham and Mrs-Virginia Mrs-Virginia Uren. Others present were Art Connell, Mrs. Wl. G. White, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Holm, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jefferson, Tanis Srrofeld, the honored guest and the hostess. Mrs. Wanda Holm baked him a most beautiful birthday cake, decorated to perfection per-fection with 54 candles and all. After bridge delicious refreshments refresh-ments were served.
