Show Reading of Essays i Features Program i i The annual Washington's birth-day birth-day patriotic program sponsored by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, was given Thurs-i Thurs-i day afternoon of last week in the 1 high school auditorium, and was featured by the reading of the j three prize winning essays. The j subject this year was, "What Americanism Means to Me," and first place in the contest went to Miss Lenora Bowen, second place to George A. Horton and third place to Ann Maree Outzen. , The program included, in addi-! addi-! tion to reading of the essays, singing, btar bpangled Banner, led by Principal Kenneth C. Farmer; Far-mer; prayer, Mrs. Lois Wadding-ham; Wadding-ham; pledge to the flag, led by Mrs. Nona Decker; piano duet, Mrs. E. L. Smith and daughter, Lucille; solo, Mrs. J. E. Muncey; awarding of the prizes by Mrs. Florence Barnes, president of the Auxiliary, and song, "America." As Auxiliary "Americanism" chairman, chair-man, Mrs. David S. Willams supervised super-vised the arrangements for the contest and conducted the program. pro-gram. Judges of the essays were Mrs. Vena Wilson, Mrs. M. H. Pool and Mrs. E. L. Smith and they found the task of selecting the three best papers not a little difficult, several of the remaining essays judged being found meritorious.
