Eat it up wear it out; Make it do, or do without! REGRETS ACTION 'OF G. 0. P. (From Helper Journal) Your editor regrets deeply the recent action taken by the Republican Repub-lican party of Utah when they went on record by resolution in their stat6 convention as favoring the repeal of the present Utah Direct Di-rect Primary law, and returning the power of nominating candidates candi-dates back to the minority. j Today over 10 million American men are wearing the colors of the! good old USA and are fighting j the most horrible and bloody war in the history of man that Ameri-1 ca may be kept American, and I that our democracy may never vanish from our shorps. ' i It has been only a matter of about eight years since the power j of election of public officials in Utah was taken from the hands of a few domineering politicians, whose only ambition was political power, and who knew nothing about honest scruples, and was given to the jnasses. And ever since that time there have been members of both major parties doing their all in trying to regain that power they enjoyed so many years. I The GOP served warning dur-! ing the last regular session of the state legislature that they were out after the direct primary. Their representatives proposed amendments amend-ments that would eliminate the runoff, and later legislation that would have removed the whole system sys-tem from the statutes. Every attempt at-tempt was beaten down and the direct primary still survives. j Now the GOP have come out -' boldly, as a party hopeful of gaining gain-ing political prestige lost several years ago in Utah, and by resolu- tion favor giving the power ' of elections back to those vultures who have been shunted into the back-ground for a number ofi years. I I Ii isn't the object of this article to suggest that the GOP should be defeated next November, but merely to point out to the masses of people in Utah what might happen to one of the most progressive progres-sive steps taken in our state that conforms to some of the things those 10 million boys are fighting to preserve. People of Utah should be alert to the issues that will be argued and discussed during the forthcoming forth-coming campaign, and above all things, they should appreciate the advantage they now have in selec-I selec-I tion of candidates and eventual public officials via the direct primary pri-mary law as compared with the old corrupt convention system.
