Fencing projects show 14.4 miles, of five-strand barbed wire, constructed con-structed over almost inaccessible country. Materials for this project pro-ject were transported by pack horse over a major portion of this territory. Connected with this project was constuction of 12 gates and four cattle guards. Two rodent control projects have been worked in conjunction with the biological survey. Reporti show 19,900 square acres have been treated with poison bait to exterminate gophers and kangaroo rats. Water development projects consist con-sist of two springs connected with storage tanks and watering troughs. Miscellaneous projects include construction of one spike camp, one powder magazine, cutting 1,500 poles for corral construction, construc-tion, and construction of four bridges and one-half mile of telephone tele-phone line. Emergency work includes approximately ap-proximately 1,600 man-days fighting fight-ing forest fire, 200 man-days in search for Western Air Express plane, 150 man-days in search for missing persons, 600 man-days breaking roads and hauling feea to stranded herds during extreme cold weather. It was estimated that over $200,000 worth of livestock live-stock was saved by the efforts exerted ex-erted by this camp. In addition, 13 miles of truck trails have been constructed to inaccessible in-accessible projects and 42 miles ot road maintained. No major accidents have occurred oc-curred since the beginning of operations op-erations and 21 months elapsed before the first minor accident was reported. Letters of commendation commen-dation have been received from the Washington office for this record. rec-ord. At present the officers and members of this camp are from the Fourth Corps area. In spite oi the fact that the enrollees are in a new type of work, an exceptionally exception-ally good record has been established estab-lished since their arrival here. If weather conditions permit full-time work during the winter months, we shall easily accomplish the record we have been striving to make. |
