Show Former Editor Is Honored By Press At Annual Meet i Karl S. Carlton, veteran Beaver county publUhvr who still maintains main-tains a home in Milford though -pi ndirg the winters elsewhere, was elected an honorary member of the Ctah State Press association associa-tion Saturday evening in Salt 1-ake in the course of the -10th annual J convention of the association. Charles England of Logan, John1 R. Wa'.lis of St. Geerge and S. D. Perry of Morgan and C6alvil!e were similarly honored. Only Mr. Perry, who publishes pajiers in both f those towns, remains ac-tivey ac-tivey engaged in the newspaper business, the others having retired after many years in the harness. Mr. Carlton's name was placed in nomination for this honor a year ago by The News representative but election was deferred until this year. The convention was the largest attended in the history of the association, as-sociation, with an exceptionally; large representation from southern south-ern Utah, only two or three papers' failing of such representation. New officers for the coming year are Val H. Cowles of Price, j president; Leland G. Burress ot Bingham Canyon, vice president; Hendrik Romeyn of Salt Lake, i secretary-treasurer; William E. England of Logan, Elisha War. ; ner of Spanish Fork, George L. Crowther of Salt Lake and Edgar , Simpson of St. George, executive board members. I Entertainment features of the convention consisted of a luncheon ; Saturday noon tendered the mem-j mem-j bers of the association by the Salt Lake Tribune-Telegram man-i man-i agement, the annual banquet Sat-i Sat-i urday night with Hamilton Park, I Tribune columnist who writes un-j un-j der the name of "Senator from ! Sandpit' as toastmaster; and a Sunday noon luncheon tendered by the Western Newspaper Union, principal paper supply house ot the intermountain west. All meetings meet-ings and social affairs were held in the Newhouse hotel, the management man-agement of which again displayed ' their usual fine consideration for j representatives of the "fourth j estate" despite continually increasing increas-ing demands on this popular hotel for meeting rooms and other fa-' fa-' cilities. |
