Show Desert Range C. C. C. Camp By Marv Smith, Camp Correspondent Winter Baseball Sunday afternoon a group of fellows went down on the old "Hard-pan" and staged a baseball game. Just like the good old days last summer, the boys warmed up and played ball, like professionals in a winter training camp. It was really warm, too not like Milford weather. You know, the sun gets, vexed and very hot after it leaves Milford in its western trek on account ac-count of seeing so much desert in one stretch. The atmosphere therefore, there-fore, is generally warmer here at cam) than it is in town. Anyway, baseball is fun in the winter. Captain Curtis Visits Captain Curtis visited camp officially of-ficially this week and brought his brother, who is also a captain in the chaplain reserves, and three musicians with him. These three young men played guitars and sang trios for hours to the enjoyment enjoy-ment of the camp members. j What: Again? Saturday night Dr. Arvin, our genial camp surgeon, operated on Sheridan Rogers at the Milford hospital -for appendicitis. At the last report Sherd was doing very well "The Mirage" A name contest for the camp paper was held this week and it was won by Chris Chesley who submitted "The Mirage". It is announced that Fred Hales is ap-ppointed ap-ppointed editor by Captain Walker. It is not yet known when publication publica-tion will start. Our congratulations go to Ralph Brown, hard working, cheerful cook, who was recently promoted to mess steward. Other promotions include Reed Robertson and Bob Braithwaite, who made first and second cook, respectively. It seems that nature and the great outdoors have another ardent ar-dent fan. At almost any hour of the day or night one may glance across the desert and see our cheerful barber, Willis Rogers, strolling through the sagebrush and sand. The motive for this out-of-doors movement is not exactly ex-actly known. Perhaps it's Willis' love of the trees and flowers (oh, yeah!), or he's on inspiration tours for his pre-season poetry urge; or maybe he is ju.-t training for the next Olympic games. Who knows? At any rate, he comes back rosy-cheeked rosy-cheeked and vigorous. |
