Show Worked-0ut Mines Have Little Resale Value "Tunnel Cor Sale.' Wouldn't that be a queer sign to hang at tlie portal ot a mining tunnel? Yet there may be a lot of tunnels and shafts for sale cheap m worked-out mines of Utah it there is not more exploration work done in Utah mines and done (liiickly. The past decade has been a lean one for the mines of Utah. No new sizeable producers have been I opened up and no new non-ferrous mineral districts have been discovered. dis-covered. Production during this period has been coming from the older mines in the older districts. Conditions have been such that even they could not perform an adequate amount of exploratory work to perpetuate their lives and insure production for the future. When the war broke out the situation became even worse. Many of the younger workers enlisted in the army or navy and other skilled workers found better pay in other war industries. The regulation ot metal prices would not permit the mines, for a time, to compete in the labor market. The plight of the m!nes has been recognized in Washington, and it. is hoped that the necessary basis will be provided to increase the activities of the mining industry until it is in a healthy state once again. A healthy mining industry makes for a healthy state, as mining min-ing has long been the backbone industry in Utah's economic life. |
