Show First Fathers', Sons' Banquet Proves Unqualified Success 325 Boys and Dads Enjoy Great Rally Event At Beaver; Ninety From Milford It was some experience and one that provided more than one ! real thrill the gathering of 325 fathers and sons at the Beaver high school Monday night and their sitting down in one great ! crowd to a wonderful banquet pre-pared pre-pared for the first annual fathers and sons rally of the Beaver district. dis-trict. There were an even 90 fathers and sons from Milford among the group and approximately approxi-mately 30 from Minersville. Sponsored by the Beaver district , committee of the Boy Scouts of America, but with no limit as to the age of those participating, the affair is considered to have been a complete success and one that can be rotated from town to town in the county with excellent results' as a means of drawing closer to- J gether the fathers and sons of i every community. The net proceeds pro-ceeds of the banquet are to remain, with the district committee to be disbursed only for necessary district dis-trict expenses. The crowd was seated and the' banquet served with surprisingly little loss of time considering the fact that the greater number of the Beaver ticket purchasers were late in getting their tickets, leaving leav-ing those in charge in ignorance as to the number to be served. Despite De-spite this, however, the affair went off in good shape with liberal portions of tasty food served while still hot from the kitchen. Roast venison provided by representatives representa-tives of the state fish and game (Continued on last page) o Fathers' and Sons' (Continued from first page) department and prepared under the direction of W. W. Farrer, camping member of the Boy Scout district committee, and S. Taylor Farnsworth, district chairman, formed the meat course but the plates were well filled' with other good things to eat and topped off with delicious ice cream. Following the banquet the crowd adjourned to the auditorium, where a very fine program was given, including the color ceremony by Milford Scouts; community singing, sing-ing, directed by Chase Murdock of Beaver, with former Mayor George Murdock at the piano; stunts by Milford, Beaver and Minersville Scouts; chorus by Beaver 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys; trumpet solo by Clark Hall of Minersville and clarinet-piano number by Scouts' Jav Jeffers and John Clay of Mil-. ford. j Following the program, Chief Executive A. A. Anderson of the Timpanogos council of Boy Scouts,' was introduced and gave a wonder- j ful talk that was an inspiration to ; all the fathers and sons present, I taking the opportunity of showing the fathers and "adopted" fathers present how they might get closer to their boys and exacting from every father a solemn pledge to undertake this coming summer at least one overnight camp alone with his boy or each of his boys, as the case might be. While the enjoyment of the banquet ban-quet was confined to fathers and sons the greater part of the work of preparing it fell to the lot of women and girls, with the kitchen force in this case being efficiently organized under the direction of Mrs. Sadie Patterson, stake secretary secre-tary of the Young Womens Mutual Mu-tual Improvement association. Much of the preliminary work in the preparation of the vension fell to Mrs. Farnsworth and Mrs. Farrer, with neighbors of these good women coming to their rescue res-cue in the baking of the six or seven hundred rolls which were brought to the high school still warm from the oven and served thus to the hungry men folks. |
