Show v Fillmore Plane Crash Deals Death To Two i John J. Barker, 43, of Provo, i pilot of a two-place plane that he was using in stunting, was killed Tuesday, and Mvs. Roma Wiley i Carpenter, 20, a woman passenger, also of Provo, was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon at Fillmore. The plane crashed about a half-mile half-mile north of the Fillmore grandstand grand-stand and in full view of" hundreds who were attending the stock show and home-coming celebration. Mrs. Carpenter, wife of an army man now in Germany, died at 10:15 that evening in the Fillmore hospital. hos-pital. The plane, a Fairchild army type trainer craft, reported to be one of a lot of surplus planes recently re-cently sold by the government, was owned by the Provo Flying Service. According to spectators who viewed the fatal crash, the plane went into a spin at a high altitude and crashed despite frantic fran-tic "gunning" to bring it under control. Mr. Parker, a native of Mexico, Missouri, was married in 1929 to a Provo woman and was the father fa-ther of three daughters and a son. He had been business manager for the Provo Medical building for 12 years. Mrs Carpenter was a native na-tive of Antimony, Garfield county, a graduate -of Provo high school and former student of Brigham Young university. She was employed em-ployed in the industrial relations department of the Geneva steel plant. |
