Show . - . State Educators Attend Luncheon This weeks luncheon meeting of che Milford Lions club took on quite .in educational complexion Wednesday Wednes-day with the presence as guests of Dr. D. C. Jensen, director of adult I education work in the state; L. R. . Humphries, state supervisor of agricultural agri-cultural education; and S. M. Witt-I Witt-I wer, county superintendent of schools. ! The gentlemen were present on invi- lation of Lion P. E. Beecher, princi-; princi-; pal of the local high school, who ! introduced them to the group. Dr. Jensen, speaking briefly, told of the work being done by adult ! classes throughout the state and congratulated con-gratulated MJi'ord on having some ' approximately 8 ' per cent of the ! population interested where the state ! average is about 2 per cent. He re- minded his hearers that Utah, stood ! at the head of the list as regards il-i il-i leteracy, with only 1.2 per cent of its population coming within that classi-i classi-i iication, intimating that it was Utah ' people's intense interest in education .hat had brought this about. As j business men and leaders in the com-j com-j munity he asked the support of the j Lions club in this work, j Mr. Humpheries detactcd some of j the high honors coming to Utah I ihrough showings made throughout j the United States by young men af-j af-j filiated with units of the Future ' Farmers of America, and hoped to I see the boys of this section interest j themselves in the movement, and j that close cooperation between school I and community would be maintained, j J. D. Ford jr., traveling freight j and passenger agent for the Union ' Pacific system, with headquarters in Salt Lake City, was also present J as a guest and told of his pleasure at j being present. j Lions piine, Outzen and Smith were appointed by President Koch' as a committee to arrange for a ladies i night in the near future and it is (likely that ths idea will be merged j with attendance at the Charter night i of the St. George Lions club, Decem-i Decem-i ber 15, when the Dixie club will be j fittingly welcomed into the circle of j -outhern Utah clubs. ; Lions present at the meeting were: i Ivoch, Hughes, Murdock, J. C. Root, I Pool, Shannon, Palmer, Beecher, Jef-I Jef-I ferson, Hanks and Williams. |
