Show Amazon Once a Sea South America once consisted of three islands, separated by a sea similar to the Mediterranean, said Dr. William M. McGovern, professor of political science at Northwestern university, who recently returned from an exploration of the Amazon jungle. The sea which once divided South America has now become the Amazon river, he said. Doctor McGovern Mc-Govern said that within ten miles of Manaos, a modern little city at the extreme end of the Amazon river steamer line, virgin jungle was to be found. Forty miles away, he said, Indians never seen by white man, live. |
