Show Once Fierce Navajos Of all the Indian tribes of North America none is more interesting than the Navajo, observes a writer in the Xew Mexico Magazine. A pastoral people, following their sheep from pasture to pasture across the semi-arid plains of New Mexico, the Navajos were once the fiercest of the predatory tribes feared by their peace-loving I'ueb-; lo brothers as well as by the whites.' They have often been called the' Bedui of America, an appropriate name, although the early Span-' iards called them Navajo-Apaches, from the Indian word apachu (ene- my), the author explains. |
