Show (Continued on page four) PUREBREDSIRE SIGNS POPULAR In conducting the "Better Sires Better Stock" campaign in cooperation coopera-tion with the States for the improvement improve-ment of domestic livestock, specialists in the United States Department of Agriculture have observed the evidence evi-dence of unusual interest of farmers and stockmen in the lithographed barn signs being offered to persons who are improving their herds with purebred sires. The department regularly grants certificates of recognition to these progressive stockmen, and, on request, also furnishes a barn sign, measuring 10 by 14 inches, bearing the words "Purebred Sires Used Exclusively Ex-clusively on This Farm." Enrollments received in the campaign in March .'bowed that 71 per cent of the stock owners requested these signs in addition addi-tion to the regular certificates. The sign is printed on heavy weather-re-s'stant cardboard and i9 lithographed to resemble a bronze tablet. STUDENTS WIN HONORS AT CEDAR (Continued from page one) freedom,. And there we see the new world and the future America, developing, devel-oping, and being baptized in freedom. The spirit of freedom stood, and so sticngly that if refused to g' in. It did not give in when the colonies demanded de-manded their right to representation. To many people, the f:.ghting and winning of the revolutionary war was nothing short of a miracle. The thought that raw untrained farmers could repel scientifially trained soldiers sold-iers was little dreamed of before, and yet it was performed before the very eyes of the unbelieving. Here is a good example of the leaders lead-ers and the majority of the people desiring de-siring the right. Washington was the main figure at that time, and also the military leader.- Washington with his clean simplicity. Washington the prayerful and unselfish. Can you picture pic-ture the man who prayed and sacrificed sacrific-ed every day for his people? Is it then so hard to find the reason that he triumphed. j Washington also played a great part in the making of our Constitu- tion. This Constitutional Convention also gives us an insight into the character char-acter of the philosopher, Benjamin Franklin. The Convention which was j comprised of the greatest minds of j the nation, had met and disagreed for i almost three months. Franklin arose and spoke some of his simple philosophy. philos-ophy. He told those great men that prayer had sufficed once before when a great crisis was at hand, and that ,o his knowl; 'ge, it would hei". The convention was adjourned for the purpose of prayer. After which, harmony was paramount, and the result re-sult is our Immortal Constitution. Here are examples wherein our Nation Na-tion was ordained to independence and self government. Providence has always gives us great leaders in time of need. When our Nation was threatened with disunion, dis-union, the greatest character that has been known perhaps, was brought to the front. Abraham Lincoln, Lincoln the just and honest. When he was first acquainted with the slave trade, he resolved that if the time came when it was possible, he would strike and strike hard in an effort to abolish it. It is said of Lincoln that he had as much compassion for a wounded confederate con-federate soldier, as he did for a union soldier in the same condition. Ac any rate we have almost positive proof that he had the gift of revelation. It was Lincoln's habit to pray every night. One night before one of the decisive battles of the War, he seemed rather happy. It was noticed and he was questioned. Hetold the questioner question-er that after he had prayed that night a feeling of peace came over him and that he felt the union would win the battle the next day. The result was as Lincoln foretold. Honest Abe, as he was known was no slacker, neither was he a follower of the crowd. Hewas on the right side of the fence, and for that reason hefought wrong because it was wrong. - Lincoln freed the slaves because slavery was wrong. ' In everything he did, he taught our nation a lesson of justice and honesty. It is from him that the rioctorine of justice comes to our people. Up to this time, America had been a nation of learning. Born with faith and thankfulness, Baptized in freedom, free-dom, Ordained to. independence and self government, and give a doctrie of justice. With such a background as this, it is little wonder that we have become an example to the rest of the world. . ' America has never entered into a war unless it was for an unselfish motive. mo-tive. We entered the Spanish American Ameri-can war to releive 'oppressed people. We entered the world war to fight for principle, and asked no compensation from the loser. Righteous people love right. And certainly the actions of our nation have been a great impelling motive to move its people to patriotism. We are now facing an economical crisis that is trying our patriotism. But as Franklin said, what has sufficed suffic-ed once, to his knowledge would do so again, so as truth and faith have been our guides before, may they not help us now? Let us put our trust in our Republic. And also in the leader we claim for ourselves in the last line of our national na-tional humn. GREAT GOD, OUR KING.. |
