Show SURPRISE PARADE ANNOUNCES START OF CLUB CONTEST A parade and Band concert will announce an-nounce the opening of the back yard play ground contest at four o'clock Friday, April 15, according to Mrs. Rue Nielsen, Beaver County chairman of the Better Homes in America. With the blowing of the city siren, the parade will start. Just what the Auxiliary members, who are sponsoring sponsor-ing the contest along with Better Bet-ter Homjes, are planning is being kept a complete secret and the townspeople are to expect a surprise at four o'clock when the members form for their parade on Main Street. The band concert is also a thing of mystery. mys-tery. Mrs. Abbie Dutson will lead a band of sixteen pieces and the concert will be held on Bank Corner. Further information on the concert is unavailable, unavail-able, but again, a surprise is promised the spectators. Mystery Parade The object of the mystery parade and surprise concert is to stimulate interest in the back yard play ground contest which is to start on the day of the parade and close on June 15. The Legion Auxiliary and the Better Homes in America are sponsoring it for the double purpose of encouraging the making of more attractive back ysrds and the inducing of children to play at home. Prizes will be offered fdr the most attractive back yards at the close of the contest and the children child-ren are encouraged to participate with their parents in making an attractive back yard playground. Judging Points Points that will be considered in the judging of the play ground are: 1. Equipment. Such equipment as a sand box, slides, swings, horizontal bars, flying rings, horizontal ladder'!, playhouses, pet houses, will receive consideration of the judges as will their the safety, use, design and low cort. 2. Landscaping. Play space plir-ned plir-ned for shade as well as attractiveness attractive-ness will be an important consideration. considera-tion. At the close of the contest, on June 15, a twelve dollar camera will be awarded as first prize, a prize of play ground equipment will be the second, five dollars, the third, and two dollars, the fourth. With the awarding of prizes, a children's day will be held at which time the Auxilijfry will award prizes for games, races and contests in which the children of the town will participate. |
