Show BLACKMAILER WILL BE RETURNED TO BEAVER FOR TRIAL YOUNG OFFENDER TO BE PROSECUTED IN OUR COUNTY COURT Charles Girt, who brought Milford much publicity in his blackmailing activities conducted from here several sever-al days ago, will be brought back from Salt Lake City, where he is under un-der arrest, to Beaver county, where l-.e will stand trial. County Sheriff Jensen and County Attorney Murdock Mur-dock are in Salt Lake this week and will likely return about Monday with the prisoner. Girt, who said he hailed from Indiana, In-diana, was spending a few days hero with relatives, and was supposed to be seeking a job. He admitted sending send-ing a threatening letter to George 0. Rolf, hotel man of Salt Lake, demanding de-manding a thousand dollars or his life. Girt made no vague promises of the penalty of refusal saying in no uncertain terms that he was anxious to see how good a shot he was. Salt Lake authorities notified the law here, and after Girt had once called at the Milford postoffice for mail, he found local police awaiting his next visit. He was taken to Salt Lake by Officer Hedges and Marshal Coleman and at first stoutly denied guilt. Later he admitted the crime, stating that he had borrowed money from a girl and used blackmailing as a method to get funds. He did not know Relf but simply took his name from a telephone directory. The young man is 22 years old. Deputy Sheriff Kronholm was of the opinion last week that the young man might havs had local accomplices, and for that reason local authorities were reluctant to make public the developments in the case. |
