Show MRS. ATKIN APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF BETTER HOMES COMMITTEE Mrs. Annie J. Atkin has been appointed ap-pointed as chairman of the Better Homes committee for Milford. This is the eleventh nation-wide campaign of Better Homes in America, Ameri-ca, an educational organization established estab-lished for public service in the interest inter-est of home improvement. President Hoover is Honorary Chairman of the organization and Secretary Wilbur is President. The headquarters office is in Washington, D. C. with Dr. James Ford in charge as Executive Director. The Better Homes campaign is designed de-signed to stimulate the improvement of housing conditions and bring about a more wholesome type of home and family life. The programs carried out by local committees are determined determin-ed by the needs and conditions in the community. Features include lectures lectur-es and discussions, exhibits, contests, and where possible the demonstration of one or more new or remodeled houses to show how the better types of homes can be provided for families famil-ies of modest incomes at a cost within with-in their reach. Care and repair programs pro-grams as a means of relieving unemployment unem-ployment during the winter are being emphasized again this year. These I programs culminate in Better Homes j Week which in 1932 will be from April 21 to May 1. |
