Show CHILDREN FOUND TO LACK SCHOOL BOOKS Emergency Measures Taken And Board To Ee Asked To Remedy. Upon ascertaining that there were a few children going to the Milford public schools without textbooks, because be-cause of the destitute circumstances of the families, the B. P. W. and Lions Club joined this week in contributing con-tributing a small sum to aid families in this manner. A committee from the Lions Club has been named to see if the county board of education will take steps to remedy like situations. The matter was brought up before the attention of the Lions Club thi3 week by Geo. Jefferson, who said that he was surprised that there had been no provisions made for such emergencies inasmuch as there is a compulsory school law. He thought that an affidavit of destitute circumstances cir-cumstances should bring county aid in the matter of school books. It was stated that Principal Andrews declared there was a bad condition created among industrious school students by their contact with three or four who were idle because of lack of textbooks. The Lions Club lunched this week at the Milford Hotel Cafe, and in addition ad-dition to the discussion of school conditions, con-ditions, heard an up-to-the-minute report on world events by J. R. Mur-dock. Mur-dock. D. O. Dastrop was named to give current events at the next meeting-President C. R. Parrish presided and Harold Cline wielded the baton. |
