Show HERE AND THERE " in the EXCHANGES ; -- ST. GEORGE Frank Snow, a Shev-wits Shev-wits Indian about 60 years old, shot and killed himself with a .22 calibre rifle Sunday following a few days of domestic troubles. Early in the morning he went to the canup of a neighbor and borrowed the gun on the pretext of hunting for rabbits and squirrels, told them he was going to tell everybody goodby, walked away about 100 yards and shot himself through the heart. He died instantly. The family history of the Indian is not well known, but at one time Frank was married and had a son Stewart Snow, now frown and ; n eminent policeman at the reservation. Records do not show whether his squaw died or "walked away," but upon the death of his brother several years ago, in line with the traditions, Frank married mar-ried the squaw, Ida Snow, the mother of a large family. . From the beginning marital difficulties diffi-culties arose, and a few days ago Frank became very angry. He refused refus-ed to eat and had fasted for about three days before he committed suicide. sui-cide. Immediately following the shooting a general excitement prevailed at the reservation. About half of the Indians In-dians blamed the widow, and others were in sympathy with her. However, the trouble was finally settled, and Stewart permitted them to hold a funeral. Sunday evening the tribe congregated congre-gated at an old building at the west end of the community, spread- out their blankets and spent the night in mourning. Fires were kept burning to keep away evil spirits, and lnter-mitently lnter-mitently through the night the squaws would wail, Indians would drink coffee, cof-fee, make short speeches, and sing sorrowful dirges to the Great Spirit. The funeral was held Monday and the last that was earthly of old Frank Snow, together with all his possessions, posses-sions, was laid beside his fathers while the hills echoed with the lamentations lamen-tations of the tribe. Snow's was the ninety-seventh grave in the Indian cemetery. The death of Snow was investigated investigat-ed by Sheriff William Brooks and County Attorney Ellis J. Pickett.
