Show OUR NEED Vhun we subuierfee ull differences uiul come together sanely to di3cuss the situation we find it to be TOO FW PEOPLE. liyre we have an immense county, with construction costs of roads enormous; enor-mous; with maintenance upkeep equally as great; with a handful of men coping with a huge drainage bontt issue; with a meager little poor lo.wu struggling (later) with a sewer bond issue; with too few raising beets with every single thing we are essaying to do saddled on to a few people. Our crying need is more people. It needs more farmers to milk more cows to get more paydays on more farms to lift us out of the hole; it needs more farmers on smaller farms, RAISING A SMALL ACRE--AGE OF BEETS EVERY YEAR to get tonnage into our factory; it needs more men to build and keep up roads; it needs more families to get better schools, more churches, stiffer morale; it fairly screams MORE PEOPLE to us all the time. If we could onfy turn ALL our efforts to constructing a bigger and batter country! If we weren't constantly con-stantly annoyed with a yip at heel, a tumult behind, a squabble here, a fracas there, to eke away just that much strength which should have gone into construction to build up. V."hy can't we submerge our fights and all pull for a building program? A building of Hinckley, cutting down its big farms and bringing in people in numbers to properly work the smaller acreage those big ones will be cut up into. A building program on the North Tract to get people in, i-vt to 'mid them once we have them. A building program to settle up the Sevier River bench lands. A general ' .. .iui." them to come in" spirit. And when this is attempted, not to stand and snarl "Well, that only helps the real estate men." Why can't factory, farm bureau, church organization. commercial clubs, business interests, ALL COMBINE COM-BINE in a campaign to get more people here? If not. the struggle will wear one after another down, and move out they will, worn with an unequal struggle. But bring thm in fr.sh neighbors, new to the nrd lots of them, and the morale mo-rale is built the day is won. Sift out all the extraneous, and it set'le down to just one need: MORE PEOPLE. |
