Show THE ONCE OVER When Congressman Anderson declared that "farming is 30 years behind every other American industry in modern methods", meth-ods", he probably voiced the belief of a majority of American - citizens. At least we know many Delta people who hold that opinion. For almost every town or city man will watch the farmer far-mer at work and then insist his production would be " greater with the use of other equipment. But the fact of the business is the farmer does not spend all he earns on machinery. A modern factory could not be made highly productive by his methods. However, the factory owner usually goes in debt for his plant, expecting it to pay for itself later on. The farmer gets his plant paid for and then makes it keep him from year to year on as small an expenditure as possible. He is in a business that has more competitors than any. other business in the world. And yet, even though some of his methods may be crude, he makes a success of his business far oftener than many who place so much reliance in modern equipment. |
