Show THE NEWS FROM BURTNER Albert P. Wallace. Chronicle Representative. BURTNER COMMERCIAL CLUB. The Burtner Commercial Cub has been reorganized with Andrew Soreti son President, Jno. (5. Steele Secretary, Secre-tary, und N. S. Bishop Treasurer. It has a membership of thirty-seven, and Is adding new members every week. It Is planning a campaign of promotion promo-tion for Burtner und one of lis first steps was to organize a Real F.slato League to tlx minimum price tor city lots and farms, and a uniform commission com-mission of ten per cent on all sales. A resolution was passed at their meeting last Saturday that oucfouith of this commission was to be paid to the Commercial Club to assist In Its work of publicity and advertising, the other three louiihs to go to the heller of the land. The minimum price for farm lands recommended by the club was 1 10 per acre. The club believes that this price can be obtained as easily as it less amount, taat the land is worth at least this price, and that offering It nt a less amount simply encourages speculators, and retards the sale of other lands that cannot be sold at loss than I0. The club desires that every man Interested In the development of Burtner Burt-ner and the adjoining country shall become a member. The membership fee Is 2X0. The club will meet every Saturday evening and Is planning an extensive campaign. Among the things they will work for Is the encouragement of the beet sugar Industry, for which this section Is especially fitted, the sys- , tematle development of the town, and the building up of Industries milted for this section, encouraging the de-vi de-vi lopmeiit of tli v adjacent farm lands, tikT-'irina - nam y t&z. The Club called the mass meeting that resulted in rallying I he people to woik In constructing tho new diversion diver-sion canal after tho dam went out last spring. Through the club's efforts ef-forts the county commissioners erected erect-ed u jail building In Burtner, giving much needed work to the community, secured appropriations for the bridge across the liver, and for road construction con-struction In the neighborhood, nnd other matters of benefit to the community. com-munity. Tho Club will also make arrangements arrange-ments to affiliate with other Commercial Commer-cial clubs of the county and state so that the benefits of united action can be secured and a much wider circulation circula-tion of advertising matter be obtained than by a single local organization. Manager Steele of the Hub Mercantile Mer-cantile and Produce Co., Is preparing for a good spring business. He has Just got In a big stock of farm Implements, Imple-ments, buggies, etc., direct from the Kingman Plow Co. of Peoria, II'., and another car Is on the way. The way things are shaping around a good business busi-ness Is going to be done In Burtner the coming season. Fall grain Is looking fine around Burtner and lucern fields are showing show-ing a coat of green. It has been a very favorable winter. Knough moisture mois-ture to give the seed a good start, not very severe weather and a protective coat of snow for the growing plants. B. K. Cooper's restaurant ami pool parlor fills a long felt want In Burtner nnd Is a very popular place. Mrs. Cooper's cooking ought lo satisfy the most fastidious, nnd there Is plenty of enjoyment at the pool parlor. Mr. Cooper's phonograph Is kept busy furnishing a great variety of fine music, nnd if you haven't beard "Casey Jones" you should call for It Its great. Miss Cooper Is one of the most accomplished pianists In Burtner, Burt-ner, nnd between you snd me, she can put ep nearly ns good a game of pool as her dad. |
