Show INDUSTRIAL All EDUCATIOIf SPECIAL r Karly Monday morning the agricultural agricul-tural train sent out by the Salt Lake-Route Lake-Route pulled Into Oasis and wm switched onto the Biding. Before nine o'clock the farmers and their families from the surrounding country began to arrive and soon the streets were lined with rigs and a huge crowd was visiting the cars. The first car contained con-tained the stock, consisting of a Jersey Jer-sey bull and cow, a Holsteln cow, a Berkshire, Tamworth and Poland China hogs. The next car contained a fine exhibit of dry farm products, soils, graphic tables, dairy machinery and a great variety or other Instructive Instruc-tive exhibits for the farmers. The next car was used for lecture purposes, pur-poses, while the other three were buffet buf-fet sleeping and baggage cars. It was stated that a lurger morning crowd wna in attendance at Oasis than any point so far on the trip. It was an Interested crowd also, and from every Hettlement In the county except the Snake Valley country. The principal feature of the morning morn-ing was the talk on stock by Earl llennlon In which the good points of cattle, horses and other stock was pointed out, and the advantages of the various breeds. Mr. Bennlon was tnoroughly posted on his subject, and the Interest of the farmers was shown by the numerous quest lona they asked of the demonstrator. After dinner the party drove over to Deseret where a meeting was held in the meeting house for the farmers, and one at the Relief Society hall for the farmers' wives and daughters, nnd Miss Florence Dudley of the Agricultural Agricul-tural College gave the women uninteresting unin-teresting talk on domestic science. Nearly 400 people were out to the two meetings, which showed tho grea-"Interest taken In them, by the farmers DisTiop Joseph Damron presided ot the meeting and Prof, llogeman of the Agricultural College gave the first talk which was on the Improvement of grains and seeds. He showed how the production of wheat could be greatly Increased by selecting the best grains from each plant, and continuing the plan for a few years. He also spoke ' on the selection of seed potatoes and their proper cultivation. Karl llennlon spoke on hog raising and the especial ( adaptability of Millard County for this business. Ho stated that pork was the cheapest meat to produce and was the fhighest priced, i Pror. Merrill spoke on the dairy business and Douglas White the In dusrlal agent of the Salt Lake Route, who has charge of the special train, jtavn a most encouraging talk on the railway situation, and the great Interest In-terest the Salt Lake Route officials were taking In the development of Millard Mil-lard County. Aur the meeting at IVseret the party drove to Hinckley, where a banquet ban-quet was served In the Academy by the; domestic science department About forty people sat down to a very fine repast, which was enlivened by limbic from Academy musicians, and responses to toast by Mayor Stout, ProMdent Illake of the Commercial Club, Representative Lnngston, Principal Prin-cipal Moeneh, Prof. Merrill and Mr. White. The occasion was a very en tert'dnlng one. At seven o'clock a meeting was held In the assembly hall of the Academy at ifrhich Interesting addresses were made by Miss Florence Dudley, Prof. Merrill, Mr. White and others. These meetings cannot but bo productive pro-ductive of great good. They have brought home to the people tho great possibilities of Millard County, have showa' tho faith the railroad officials and he agricultural experts have In the County, and should Inspire the people peo-ple lth renewed courage, hope and energy. The visiting party returned to their train at Oasis after midnight, after a very busy day, and one which was an added proof of the Interest of the people In the new enterprise of the Salt Lake Route, and the value It will be to the county. Tuesday morning the train pulled out for the south. |
