With the sixty-six Democratic members of the legislature legisla-ture hopelessly divided on the selection selec-tion of a successor to the late United States Senator Charles J. Hughes, Jr., the first ballot was taken in separate sep-arate session on Tuesv. The Democratic Dem-ocratic vote was dlvfHtmong nlno persons, only three of whom had previously pre-viously announced their candidacy for the scnatorshlp. In addition to theso nine, seven favorite Republican sons were honored with thirty-three Republican Re-publican votes. One Republican ' member was absent. |
