Show THE MUSICAL RECITAL. The musical recital given on Wednesday Wed-nesday evening of last week by the pupils of Mrs. January was the first event or tbe kind ever held In Delta and waa a great success. The performers per-formers were all beginners, so the audience did not expect to bear difficult diffi-cult numbers or great skill. It was also the first public appearance of the performers so a little nervousness waa expected, but there was little evidence ev-idence of this on the part of any of them. The numbers were simple melodies mel-odies which were played with excellent excel-lent expression. Little Inei Underbill Under-bill won the applause of the audience by ber singing of the "Slumber Boat" her aweet childish voice and unconscious' uncon-scious' gree tnakiag a quick appeal to the hearts of the bearers. Another Juvenile hit was the vocal duet by Or-ville Or-ville Turner and Margaret Whicker: "We'll Always be the Same Sweethearts." Sweet-hearts." Tbelr sweet voices and old-fashioned old-fashioned costumes called forth an encore en-core which they gravely responded to by coming back and making their bow to tbe audience. The eight-hand duet "June Bug Dance," by Ellen Copenlng, Cree Underbill, Un-derbill, Mamie Patton, and Myrtle Sampaon was marked by excellent time and good expression. The children's chorus, "Blanket Bay," waa a pretty number which called call-ed for an encore which was responded to by "My Home in Delta," which made a hit. Another chorus that brought an encore en-core was the "Message of the Violets," from "The Prince of Pllsen." Mra. January aang the solo part In ber usual usu-al pleasing manner while six girls assisted as-sisted In the chorus, swinging In graceful steps as they came from the wings snd retired to the time of the music. The closing chorus, "Good Night, Beloved, Good Night," was also a very pleasing and melodious number. It wss sung with expression snd the various parts blended In A harmonious manner. The entire program showed much practice on the part of the pupils snd excellent training by Mrs. Jsnuary. It also shows that Delta haa musical talent which only requires training to bring good results. We hope that the recital will result In awakening greater great-er Interest In music on tbe part of Patents and children. Nothing adds so much to the enjoyment of life as a musical training, the ability to play or 'v. While all cannot become flu-Uheii flu-Uheii -:!uii'lans, everyone can learn tnouf.'i n usle to entertain themselves and their friends.
