Show the state of Utah; a life that was full of thrilling pioneer incidents and hard ships, always looking to the betterment of mankind and the world at large, the passing pass-ing of which will bring sorrow to his hosts of acquaintances and relatives and with a reflection of his past life of usefulness which will stand as a password for the better things to come. Geo. Wise Cropper j George Wise Cropper was born r May 4, 1347, at Spring Creek, Harris County, Texas, and died in Salt Lake City, Jan., 11, 1916, in the L. D. S. hospital, leaving two sons and five daughters. t His wife, two daughters and one son preceeded him to tne q great beyond. He also leaves two brothers, Thomas W. Crop- j per of Hinckley, Utah, and Leigh R. Cropper of Deseret, Utah, one sister, Mrs. Kate Webb of Los Angeles, California, and a a host of relatives and friends. j! The funeral was held in the Deseret Chapel, under the dir- a ection of the Bishopric, con-ducted con-ducted by first councilor, P. T. y Black, and assisted by the Indian ' War Veterans. On January 15, l 1916, he was laid to rest in the j Oasis cemetery, by his wife and' children. , His people emigrated to Utah in the year 1856, his father hav-i hav-i ing died in Texas in the year 1851. He settled in Fillmore, lt Millard County, Utah. Later f his folks moved to Deseret, in the year 1861, and his step-fath-)r er, Jacob Croft, and brothers .e superintended the building of Jr the first dam in the Sevier river. . After a number of years the dam jt went out and the place was t abondoned. Then again in the ia winter of 1875-76, Gilbert Webb J3 and Mr. Cropper and brothers, )0 with some others rebuilt it. Af-,n Af-,n ter some time Mr. Webb, who to had put up money for building , the dam became bankrupt. (, Then the Deseret Irrigation . was formed.
