Show Cats Drive Off Snakes. For many years I have been nmnlng a cattle station In Queensland, where snakes are tolerably numerous. At the bead station we, bave always kept up a standing army of from II to 20 cats and have been practically free frfTm tbe presence of snakes about tbe building and yards. That this was owing to the presence of our cats I have no doubt whatever. They were always on the lookout, and ( have often seen members of our feline body guard growling over dead or dying snakes and have more than once witnessed savage encounters between be-tween them and thetr victims On the other hand, martyrs to their duty ere from time to time found dead n the morning with all the evidence of t fight and thetr defeat In tbe shape af a snakebite on tl.elr bodies Spectator. |
